Pete Abbott, a resident of Maryland, re-powered his Tiara 3100 Open with a pair of Steyr Motors MO256H45 250hp diesel engines. After replacing his old big-block gas engines with the Steyr diesels, he increased his cruise speed and more than doubled his fuel economy. This amazing boat now cruises at 26 knots, tops out at 32 knots, and sips fuel at less than 5 gallons per hour per engine. Very few engines could ever accomplish that mixture of performance and fuel economy!

This 1994 Carolina Classic 28 serves as a clear example of what happens when fuel-guzzling gas engines are replaced by state-of-the-art Steyr engines. After replacing the gas engines with a pair of 250hp Steyr Motors diesel engines, this vessel cruises at 31 knots and tops out at an astounding 41 knots! The boat now weighs less (Steyr engines are lighter than comparable gas engines), goes faster, and burns less than half the fuel. At less than 5 gal/hr per engine at cruise, this boat has amazing performance and range.
